HEIC Converter

Convert iPhone HEIC photos to JPG, PNG, or WebP

How to use HEIC Converter

  1. Select one or more HEIC/HEIF files from your iPhone or Mac.
  2. Choose an output format: JPG (smallest, best compatibility), PNG (lossless), or WebP (modern, small).
  3. Adjust quality if needed (92% is a good default for JPG).
  4. Click Convert All, then download individually or as a ZIP.

Why convert HEIC photos?

Since 2017, every iPhone saves photos in HEIC format by default. HEIC files are roughly half the size of JPEG at the same quality, which saves storage space on your phone. However, HEIC is not universally supported.

Windows requires a separate extension to open HEIC files. Many web platforms, email clients, and older software cannot handle HEIC. Converting to JPG gives you universal compatibility, while WebP offers a modern alternative with better compression than JPG.

This converter uses a WebAssembly-based HEIC decoder that runs entirely in your browser. Your photos are never uploaded to any server, making it safe for private or sensitive images.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a HEIC file?
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the default photo format on iPhones since iOS 11 (2017). It produces smaller files than JPEG at the same quality, but many apps and services do not support it.
Why can I not open HEIC files on Windows?
Windows requires the HEIF Image Extensions from the Microsoft Store to open HEIC files natively. Converting to JPG or PNG avoids this issue entirely.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser using a WebAssembly decoder. Your photos never leave your device.
Will the conversion lose quality?
Converting to JPG involves re-encoding, which introduces minimal quality loss at quality 92 (the default). Converting to PNG is lossless. Converting to WebP at quality 90+ is visually identical to the original.
